Kenny and Malaina Ortiz, along with their two young kids, moved from Minnesota to Florida in June 2023 to launch Horizon City.

Kenny was a pastor at Cities Church and professor at Bethlehem College & Seminary. Malaina was previously a missionary to France and then worked as a college recruiter for several years.

Kenny has been dreaming of church planting since his college days, more than 20 years ago, and Malaina has become his biggest supporter. They are currently recruiting a launch team to be a part of this church plant.

“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”

—Walt Disney

  • take personal responsibility for the discipleship of the individuals in their lives;
  • are fiercely committed to kingdom multiplication through church planting and global missions.

—C.S. Lewis

Members Beliefs

Our Members will be expected to affirm the essentials of the historic Christian faith, as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed.

Full agreement with the Elders on secondary and tertiary doctrines will not be a prerequisite for membership. However, Members are expected to enthusiastically and prayerfully consider the teachings of the Elders, which shall always be in accordance with the collection of statements we affirm.

Bottom Line: If you’re cool with us, we’re cool with you. If you’ve got questions or doubts, let’s grab coffee and chat.

Elders Beliefs

Our Elders will be expected to joyfully affirm a collection of statements that we believe, together, most accurately depict the gospel of Jesus Christ, its doctrines, and its implications. This collection of statements will include:

Besides our doctrine, we have our Elder Commitments. These are the commitments that our Elders make to the congregation and to one another.

In addition, as a member church of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), we pledge that our church’s doctrine and practice shall be in “friendly cooperation” with the official statement of faith of the SBC, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 (for more info see Article III of the SBC Constitution).

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
